Background of Liquor Retailers Australia
On 16 June 2009, members of the Liquor Stores Association of Victoria (LSAV) voted in favour of a resolution to merge with Master Grocers Australia (MGA).
Taking effect from 1 July 2009, a new organisation, known as Liquor Retailers Australia (LRA), will be formed within MGA to represent the interests of its members in all areas of liquor control and compliance in the respective states where there are members.
George Kovits, President of LSAV and Rod Allen, President of MGA, jointly agree: "the combined membership strength of MGA, the LSAV and the balance of independent liquor retailers in Victoria (1,500) will enable a greater opportunity to work together to lift compliance and retailing standards in Victoria and in other states."
Master Grocers Australia & Liquor Retailers Australia Association Profile
Master Grocers Australia (MGA), and in turn, Liquor Retailers Australia (LRA) provides members with service and support. Both are not for profit, national employer industry associations representing independent grocery and liquor supermarkets and stand alone packaged liquor stores in Victoria, NSW, ACT, Western Australia, South Australia, NT and Tasmania.
These supermarkets and stand alone packaged liquor stores trade under brand names such as IGA Plus Liquor, FoodWorks Liquor, LiquorWorks, Cellarbrations, Bottle O and Duncans. They range in size from small, medium and large businesses.
LRA will benefit from MGA's proud and rich history serving its members for over 115 years.
MGA's Board of Directors is made up of independent grocery and liquor supermarket owners from around Australia.
LRA's polices have been developed by a dedicated committee of independent packaged liquor retailers representing retailers trading under the various liquor brands.
