The Grocery and Liquor Association (GALA) was formed 85 years ago after the First World War, as a voluntary community fundraising arm of Master Grocers Australia. The GALA committeeconsists of a number of grocery and liquor industry representatives who willingly volunteer their time to support a worthy community organisation – the Reach Foundation – which supports young people to become self-aware as their adolescent years can be a difficult and challenging period for them. Reach runs youth-led workshops through specific programs in Victoria and New South Wales for about 40,000 young people each year.
GALA’s purpose is to represent both the grocery and liquor industries in supporting community organisations while fostering goodwill, friendships and networking opportunities for all companies (wholesalers, retailers, and suppliers) willing to be involved.
GALA conducts major annual industry community/charity events throughout Australia including industry golf days, industry breakfasts and the annual GALA industry ball.
As a result of these events, GALA has been able to raise considerable funds for the Reach Foundation and other community organisations in designated states.
In recent times, additional committee members have been recruited from the trade ensuring the trade is always presented with the freshest and liveliest approach to fostering a community spirit within our industry.
