NSW Container Deposit Scheme forum
On Friday 29 June, MGA and a delegation of effected MGA retailer members from the Murray River border region attended a Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) Forum in Sydney.
The purpose of the NSW CDS full day forum, hosted by NSW Small Business Commissioner Robyn Hobbs and her team, and attended by a cross section of CDS agencies, beverage manufacturers, retailers and other industry stakeholders was to provide an opportunity for attendees to share first hand insights and air grievances whilst also offering suggestions as to how the Scheme can be improved.
Agencies attending the forum included, the EPA, the Cross Bored Commissioner James McTavish, TOMRA, Return and Earn and Exchange for Change. Given the disastrous commercial impacts of the scheme on our Southern NSW border retailers businesses, the NSW Government has offered a temporary assistance package but there is still far more to do to improve the NSW CDS. MGA will advise NSW members of the outcomes of this forums.
