ENERGY EFFICIENCY INFORMATION PROJECT
MGA Independent Retailers launched to its members some time ago, detailed information on the Energy Efficiency Information Project (EEIP).
MGA played a leading role in winning the Tender and bringing together Industry experts to consult and contribute on the information that has already been provided to all members. This information is in the form of a comprehensive Handbook, Fact Sheets & Videos covering all aspects of:
- Energy pricing – Understanding your energy bill the old adage: “you can’t manage what you don’t measure” holds true when it comes to energy consumption. Reading and understanding your energy bills, and where you are using energy in your store, is vital to improving energy efficiency and saving money.
- Energy management - An embedded "Energy Management System" is critical to ensuring your business makes the most cost effective investments in improving your energy efficiency, but its success relies on ongoing commitment.
- Refrigeration - Refrigerators and freezers account for 60 - 70% of supermarket electricity use. Improving the efficiency and reducing the load on your refrigeration plant in balance with your other equipment will not only save you money; it will also improve its reliability and reduce the likelihood of a breakdown.
- Heating, ventilation and air conditioning - Account for more than 20% of the energy most supermarkets use. However, if you understand how heating, ventilation and air conditioning interplay in your premises, there are some simple things you can do to reduce your heating and cooling load and save money.
- Lighting - Accounts for 15 - 20% of supermarket energy use and it is a good place to start if you are looking to reduce energy costs. Improvement opportunities often cost very little to implement, and they can deliver savings in the order of 30 - 80% of your lighting energy use.
- Hot water heating - Although hot water heating accounts for only 4% of supermarket energy consumption, there are a number of straightforward ways that you can address system losses and reduce its cost to your business.
- Electrical appliances - Changing the way that you use electrical appliances and equipment and knowing what energy efficient characteristics to look for when you’re upgrading, can significantly reduce your equipment and appliance running costs.
